[UKDT] Devkit Vol. 1: Pathways - A small series of pavements, pathways, stairs and accessories

View attachment 38493

This is the first in a series of small Devkit packs from UKDT, for the use of map developers only. In this pack, you will find a series of splines to use in your maps (illustrated below) - splines you use should be bundled with your map (and you should not list this download as a dependency).

This is a direction we are taking as it provides the following benefits:
  • This concept will help map authors keep their dependency lists as small as...

As in pedestrian guardrailing (like seen in towns to stop vehicles hitting pedestrians) or the W-shaped guardrails (like seen on motorways)? Or some other kind of railing?

These fella's.

Those are included as objects in my British Road Detailing Pack, both with the letterbox at the top and without. If you don't want to place each individually, you can place one, attach it to a spline and then make it repeat along the spline to form a continuous, curve-matching railing.

There's a couple of reasons that there isn't a spline option, both limitations of OMSI's engine:
  • Splines can only have faces parallel to the direction of the spline - wall splines have no ends for example. This means the guardrails would have to be 2D, which doesn't look so good up close.
  • Because of the lack of 3D, the rungs would be a transparent texture, which means it either cuts through almost everything or gets pixelated at a distance.

The effect can be best demonstrated using Whistlehead's splines - in it, you'll find: blackmetalfence, bluemetalfence, darkbluemetalfence, darkgreenmetalfence, greenmetalfence, metalfence and redmetalfence. There is also spikedindustrialfence, which Road-hog123 has also provided an object replacement for, with Pallisade Fencing.
