Problem: My problem isn't listed here.
Problem: The solutions to my problem didn't solve it.
Solution:

First, search Google and the forums, particularly the release thread for the problematic download, and see if anyone else has already had and maybe fixed the issue you're experiencing. Many problems can be solved by finding solutions to the same issue or similar issues someone else has also experienced.

If you can't find a existing solution, post a message politely asking for help on the forums. If one exists, it's best to post this in the release thread for that which you are having issues with, otherwise start a new thread with a helpful title (e.g. not "Help").
Remember to include as much information as you can. This includes:
  • Anything in particular the issue is limited to (e.g. if it only happens on a particular map or with a particular bus).
  • Anything you've installed or changed immediately before this issue started occurring.
  • If you are getting an error message, post the full-wording of that message. Unfortunately OMSI error messages are frequently vague and unhelpful, so on it's own this isn't too helpful.
  • If you're experiencing a crash, freeze, error messages, missing sections of map, etc. attaching your logfile (logfile.txt in the root of your OMSI install) can be helpful.
  • Anything you've already tried that didn't work.

Problem: When I load a new map all I get is blue sky.
Problem: When I'm driving on a map the road just ends with a big hole in the world.
Explanation:

This occurs because OMSI can't find some scenery items. OMSI maps are divided into square tiles roughly 300 metres square and if something is missing on the tile it won't load at all, so you get a hole there. If all the nearby tiles don't load, all you see is the sky.
Solution:
To solve this, you need to identify what is missing and make it not missing. The first step to this is to ensure that you have downloaded and installed any and all dependencies listed inside the read-me and/or download page. You may find that amendments to this list have been made on the release thread and you missed then on your first look.
If you're still finding you're missing things, the easiest way to identify exactly what is missing is to use a tool called OMSI Map Tools. After downloading this tool, read the "Quick Guide" as this explains the basics of the program. You can then analyse the problem map and get a list of missing objects and splines in their respective tabs. From here, you can search for sources for the objects, or for people who have the same issue who may have had their issue solved by helpful people. It's best to search for identifying folder names when multiple objects are in the same folder, rather than searching for the filenames, as you stand more chance of matching release thread titles.

Problem: A map I've just installed doesn't show up in the list of installed maps!
Solution:

Make sure you are selecting "Load map without buses" the first time you drive on a map. Because you've not driven on a map before, there's no last situation to load, so it's not in the list of situations to load.
If this doesn't fix the problem, you've not installed the map correctly and need to make sure you've carefully followed the installation instructions.
