Does anyone know how to fix this on Cotterell?

Solution
I got rid of them by going into the map editor and deleting the trees
I'm not really sure what their purpose was anyway.

Their purpose is to fill gaps in the terrain when you're using 1 adjacent tile loading, as the map is optimised for that setting since it significantly increases performance. If you prefer more than one adjacent tile loaded, you're best off deleting them
