This is a program to make creation of sceneryobjects easier - it allows you to create sceneryobjects from model files without having to touch a text editor. It doesn't actually do any of the conversion itself - you need the external tools listed to do that - but it automates the conversion process and writing the SCO file so all you have to do is select the source file and wait.

It's primarily intended to make it easier to convert assets from online repositories such as the SketchUp 3D Warehouse (3D Warehouse), and as such only currently supports the COLLADA (.dae) file format. Support for other file formats (.skp, .blend) is intended to be added in the future.

  • Extract the .ZIP archive to a local folder. Do not separate the contents of the .ZIP archive.
  • Make sure you have the required programs installed.

(1) Download an appropriate file from the 3D Warehouse in SketchUp 2017 format
(2) Extract the .zip archive to a suitable location
(3) Use SketchUp to convert it to a .dae file (this will hopefully be automated in future)
(4) Run the conversion utility executable
(5) Make sure all the system parameters are set (navigate to the appropriate program folder and select its executable - this setting is saved for the next use)
(6) Load the source file
(7) Set a name for the file
(8) Set the object groups (these control the file tree in the OMSI editor)
(9) Choose an output folder (A good place is OMSI 2\SceneryObects\YOUR USERNAME)
(10) Hit convert
(11) Wait until the completion popup appears

  • Only COLLADA (.dae) files supported.
  • Very little in the way of error checking or crash handling.

Improvements are planned but for now this is a perfectly functional utility which should help allow a bit more flexibility with objects in maps.

Great tool. Having some issues with it though. I exported my .dae file from sketchup and the textures come out as .jpg. When I convert it, it throws a debug error saying it can't find the .dds textures in the temp folder it made. There are no textures that show up in the temp folder anyway. Any idea on how to fix this?
